El Roi Medical Clinic & Diagnostics Center

Malate, Metro Manila, Philippines, 2025

El Roi envisioned a flagship medical diagnostics center that would stand as a landmark in Malate—an iconic building that elevates patient experience, strengthens the brand’s identity, and contributes positively to the surrounding community. More than a facility, the project aims to embody El Roi’s mission of care, service, and long-term legacy.

Program

The building combines public-oriented spaces and specialized medical functions across its vertical stack:

Ground Floor: Prime rentable commercial spaces

Second to Mid Levels: El Roi diagnostics, laboratories, and clinics

Upper Levels: Flexible office spaces for future tenants

Penthouse: Executive floor for El Roi’s leadership team

This mix ensures operational efficiency while supporting future growth and fostering a diverse building community.

Public Space

Public Space as a Gift to the City

Because the ground floor is intended for long-term commercial tenants, the El Roi lobby was lifted to the second floor, accessed through a sky plaza positioned at the corner of the site.

This sky plaza—connected by a dramatic spiral staircase—serves as:

A welcoming forecourt for patients and visitors

A pocket public space for the community, envisioned to remain open even after clinic hours

A vibrant corner landmark that gives life to the building day and night

This gesture transforms a typical diagnostic center into a civic-minded structure that shares space with its neighborhood.

Access as Art

The spiral staircase is designed as a sculptural cultural piece—its form wrapped in emerald ceramic tiles and brass strips that coil organically around the structure.

The motif references the serpent in the symbol of medicine, representing:

  • Healing

  • Renewal

  • Rebirth

It becomes both a functional element and a symbolic marker for the building’s purpose.

Organic Verticality

 Organic Gestures & Vertical Relief

The organic shape of the sky plaza cascades upward, influencing the architecture of the floors above. Terraces are punctuated with planting pockets and small trees, creating moments of greenery and respite for office tenants and visitors.

These elevated gardens soften the building’s massing, provide natural shading, and introduce biophilic comfort to an otherwise dense urban environment.
