How does one become happy? To find an approximate answer to this, we started with the understanding of the Filipino culture.

At the basic level, Filipinos are very family oriented. Unlike in the West, where the sense of individualism is the self, Filipinos consider the family as a single unit. Because of this, we are able to find a support system – a co-dependence on a close knit of loved ones that we constantly share memories and moments with – whether in prosperous or trying times.

At a larger level, Filipinos are very celebratory and optimistic – sometimes, even if we carry heavy burdens, we still can muster up a smile. We look for any reason to celebrate – as evidenced by the town festivals that our culture is know for, held once or twice a year in specific towns all over the Philippines.

The core idea is to surround the community with consistent themes of celebration, vibrancy, optimism, hope – through spaces, gestures, shapes, patterns, and colors, so that the atmosphere of positivity and celebration become the norm, and not just a feeling that one would experience during rare celebrations.
